Gaming Discussions > Backlog commitments

I've got an embarrassing backlog and I'd like to start tackling that now that the release schedule is settling down some. New/Shiny be damned (for a few minutes) as I make a commitment to finish at least 3 games in my backlog. A solid commitment. One I'm willing to post here and put my name on....

Maybe I'm going too far but I like the added motivation and I know committing to finishing a couple will help motivate me to do so- eyes on the prize. Anyone else want to join me? Let's make a list of 3 games and update the thread with our progress. Maybe even add three more later on.

My three are:
1) Halo 4
2) XCOM
3) Borderlands 2 (XBOX 360)

I've got many, many more that I consider a part of my backlog but I'll start here. I chose these three because they have regular style campaigns to complete. I also have, and are currently playing, games like PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale but that doesn't necessarily have the same sort of campaign/end so I left it off the list. Up to you though what you include on your list.

Maybe we can also help support each other more than just encouragement through this discussion. Helping as my partner (for example) in Borderlands 2 would be fabulous.

I accept your challenge and my 3 games are:

Uncharted 3
Borderlands (ps3)
Transformers War for Cybertron

I got a few chapters into U3 and that was all I played, am slowly chugging through BL2, and have not even taken the plastic off of TWfC. Looking forward to sharing my progress in getting these off my backlog! I don't have Halo 4 or Xcom so had to pick some other games.

Great idea narrowing it down to 3 and actually logging it in the hopes to shame ourselves into actually finishing. I'll join in. I've got so many that it makes me sick every time I grab another game. I will save my breath and not even add any of these campaigns from these COD or BF games because I know that won't happen. I couldn't care less about them. I'm on and off with multi player on those and that's it so here goes.

Mass Effect 2

Borderlands 2

Dead Island

Couple of quick notes. I just recently picked up Borderlands 2 so it's not "technically" backlog but I'm gonna put it here anyway with the hopes it don't become backlog. (Hey, we make our own rules right? : D) Also, Dead Island I Gamefly'ed a LOONG time ago but never got the chance to pick it up till recently.

It's sad when I look at my personal backlog list and I'm amazed at how quickly it grows. There are a lot of games that I've started and it seems almost as many that I have sitting on my shelf that I've not. When setting goals for myself I like to at least make it so they are achievable and not totally out of reach. Therefore:

1) Resident Evil 6 - I finished the entire campaign but in doing so unlocked the Ada Wong mission(s). I've had so much fun with the rest of this game it would be a shame not to play it through the the very end.

2) Dishonored - I'm only a few hours into this game but have really been enjoying it. I have every intention of finishing it sooner rather than later.

3) Call of Duty Black Ops 2 - This is the first FP Military Shooter campaign that has kept my interest. I tried and failed at finishing MW3, Battlefield 3, and Ghost Recon Future Soldier; none of them held my interest for longer than a few hours. I know I'm at least 50% through the campaign so this is certainly an attainable goal.

I wish the 3 games Iisted were the only 3 in my backlog, unfortunately, like so many others, that simply isn't the case.

I jumped in to the unlocked Ada Wong campaign for Resident Evil 6. I was both shocked and pleasantly surprised to realize that it will be just as long as the other 3 main story campaigns. I think that when all said and done I'll have logged close to 40 hours with just the campaign. Not bad, not bad at all.

Holy crap. I can forget about backlog. Need For Speed Most Wanted is a beast. wow

November 28, 2012 | Registered Commentersweatercat

Ok i'm in here is my list
1) Mass Effect 3
2) Transformers War for Cybertron
3) Yakuza 3
oh man i've made a commitment this can't be good :)

November 28, 2012 | Registered Commenterhush316

I'm going with
1) Mass Effect 3
2) Gears of War 3
3) R.U.S.E.

There are a million more but I want to finish up the two trilogies and finally get around to RTS using move.

I can happily remove Resident Evil 6 from my commitment list. I completed the final (unlocked) Ada Wong campaign and absolutely loved it. RE6 is a very strong contender for my personal pick for the ABOG FotY.

Mark off another title from my list: Call of Duty Black Ops 2 (the campaign).

Surprisingly it was an enjoyable story that mostly held my interest from start to finish . . . and that says a lot. I haven't finished any of the more recently released military FPS in several years. Both Modern Warfare 3 and Battlefield 3 lie unfinished because they simply couldn't hold my interest. Blops 2 had an a great protagonist that I could identify with and almost feel sorry for during his attack on humanity. In addition, the alternating time periods throughout the campaign (from near future to recent past) was a great way to mix up the gameplay and provide for a nice amount of variety. I can't say it'll make my list of must play games for 2012 but I'm glad I stuck with it as the payoff was worth the 7-8 hour campaign.

I would love to try out some of the co-op zombie mode if anyone is interested and owns a copy on the Xbox 360.

Rather than knocking items off this list, I'm constantly thinking of more that I should be adding. Crazy how big our backlogs can become. Keeping this to just those I'm fully committed to finishing so I hesitate to make my list any bigger. Ha!

Working on Halo 4 and have been savoring it taking the campaign slowly rather than flying through it and checking it off the list. It's coming; I'll be checking it off soon and then I'll be moving onto another commitment or making further commitments and looking for a remote island with fantastic internet so I can finally get caught up.

December 11, 2012 | Registered CommenterJoel

Ha, let me know when you find that island. It sounds like paradise.

December 11, 2012 | Registered CommenterBill

Sounds like heaven :-)

Thought I'd add my own list too, focus my gaming a little :

1) Sleeping Dogs
Picked this up in the 12 deals of christmas promo Sony Europe are running. Looking forward to running through this

2) Enslaved
Picked this up really cheap, but so far have only played an hour or so during extra life. I really enjoy Ninja Theory titles (Heavenly Sword I really enjoyed and i think its always talked down because it released so early in the PS3 lifespan)

3) The Walking Dead
Own all 5 episodes but for one reason or another I just haven't had the time to play through them

So that's my commitment :-) Its quite story heavy, but my gaming habits seem to be drifting that way recently

That is correct Joel, I'm using the move on R.U.S.E. I thought it was an interesting use of the move controller when I played the demo and then I came across it when it was dirt cheap so I picked it up to see how it is. Very quick impressions is I love how the move controller changes color based on what type of unit you are looking at (friend or enemy) and it is another way to have a mouse like experience on a RTS that is on a console. I will try to do a review of the game when I am finished.

And I will definitely hit you up for Gears 3. I have barely played it so if you are up we can start from the beginning.

I jumped back into Dishonored yesterday, and boy am I glad that I did. This game is well deserving of all the accolades and praise that it has been receiving. Although I don't particularly agree that this game is as beautiful as many have been claiming, the solid gameplay and controls are what make this game for me. According to my son - who has already finished this games - I am roughly half done with the campaign. I should be able to complete my list of 3 gaming backlog titles/goals before the end of the year.

December 18, 2012 | Registered CommenterBill

1) Halo 4
2) XCOM
3) Borderlands 2 (XBOX 360)

Knock my #1 off the list. Beat Halo 4 and it's no secret if you listen to the podcast that I thoroughly enjoyed this one. The story was pretty damn good and I really like the way it tied everything together at the end (no spoilers).

December 19, 2012 | Registered CommenterJoel

Lets see my three will be as follows:

Bourne Conspiracy
Deathspank 2
COD: BLOPS 2

I know these titles are a little weird but I believe I can get them done and they're the ones I most want to beat.

Well over a month has gone by since my first post and I haven't even put any of the games in mp PS3. Pathetic I know. On the bright side, I took a half day of work today and am going to try and work my way further into Uncharted 3!

December 31, 2012 | Registered Commenterkrakerjak

Least you're staying with the commitment kraker regardless of how long it's taking you.

I'm going to add a couple to my list. Dead Space (PS3) and Gravity Rush. So now my list is:
Borderlands2
XCOM
Dead Space
Gravity Rush

Just finished chapter 1 of Dead Space. DriveForSix and I are considering playing through simultaneously and then discussing after each chapter (or 2 or 3) - haven't figured out the details yet. Of course anyone is welcome to join and if there's more interest we can formalize (create a specific thread/plan discussions).

I am the same i have played other games but not touched the ones on my list, i do intend to rectify that soon :)

Well, as it's the first day of a brand new year, I want to put my commitments down. I really want to buckle down, limit my video game ADD nature, and actually finish some games that have been waiting too long. So, here's my plan; First I'll finish:

- Trials Evolution (Xbox360) Finish all races in single player with minimum of bronze medal, but make attempt for gold.
- Need for Speed:Most Wanted (PS3 & Vita) Not just shut down all Most Wanted cars, but finish each version to 100% completion as measured by the autolog system.
- Dead Space 1

That's it. I'm seriously going to try to limit my game playing to just those 3 games until done. Time to get started.

January 1, 2013 | Registered CommenterDriveForSix

Well here is my embarrassing backlog, which I hope to finish in the coming year

- Dead Space 2: Stop playing it after I received something new and shiny
- Dead Island : Why did I even buy this its still in shrink wrap. I blame those Amazon lightning deals
- Borderlands 2: The Mrs bought me Assassins Creed for Christmas and it took my attention away.

Can I also add my Movie backlog as a bonus to my shame ; p

Lord of the Rings Extended Edition Blu-Ray : Picked this up on the cheap 60% off couldn't pass it up
Harry Potter Blu-Ray Collection: Also picked it up on the cheap going to re-read the books and watch the movies one by one.
Well that's about it I picked up a VITA the other day for X-mas so I have a feeling this list is going to multiply

So sadly, I have mad NO progress on any of the games on my list. I however have completed just about anything I care about on the single player portion of Need for Speed Most Wanted and I completely co op'ed all of RE5 almost entirely in one setting. I'm suck a weak, shameful, tiny little man..... *sob

January 2, 2013 | Registered Commentersweatercat

sweatercat, glad to hear you enjoyed RE5. I highly recommend trying the co-op for RE6, the controls are so much better. It was a very close runner for my Favorite of the Year selection and I'd love to get my hands on some additional campaign DLC. Sadly, I've not heard mention of anything on the horizon.

January 2, 2013 | Registered CommenterBill

Ok. I'm in too. I really need to get focused and work thought my backlog so that its not just a collection. I want to play thought these, so I can get to a few more games that I picked up on sale during the holidays... I mean eventually I do want to play some 2013 games too : )

1. FarCry3 - goal - beat the game & finish the co-op missions
2. NFS MW - complete the win every race & drive all cars - both PS3 & Vita
3. The Walking Dead - need to push myself to get all the way through this.
4. Uncharted Vita - Beat the game so I can clear the space on my memory card
