ABOG Discussions > Midwest Gaming Classic
Thanks for getting this up on the site, Joel. I was just thinking the same thing.
I'm super excited to be a part of this year's MGC and even more excited to meet in person as many ABOG members as can make it. A Band of Gamers has always been, first and foremost, about community. What better way to promote this than by meeting up at one of the best community-driven videogame events of the year. Last years after party was so much fun. Getting a group together to play a full competition of Ad Hoc HSG on our Vita's was a great time and I'm looking forward to even more fun this year.
Joel and I have a lot of ideas and hope to make our first official ABOG appearance at MGC a memorable one. I'm certain we'll be sharing more information as we get closer to the actual event, but in the meantime start making your plans now.
Bill
I can't believe that MGC will be here so quickly! I will be there, but not sure if it will be just for one day or the whole weekend. Guess I better start figuring that out quickly haha.
Looking forward to it for sure!

I've been wanting to attend MGC for years and finally have permission from the boss my wife, so now all I need to do is find cheap airfare. Fingers crossed!

I should be there. All depends on the wife's pregnancy and how it's going around that time.

I'm going to be there from Thursday to Monday. Hopefully we can get together for a community meet-up / meal during MGC. It would be nice if Bill and Joel can join us but I would like to get to know some of these great people I have played online with in this community better. Plus I don't know if my wallet can handle the mind control that Bill seems to have over me, he mentions the Wii U and the next day I'm buying one :) lol jk Bill

Joel and I will be there with new suits on. Well, maybe not actual suits, but we'll certainly be there. He and I are actually getting together this weekend to start talking about MGC and how we can make ABOG a part of it and the community. I'm very excited for this opportunity and also hope to meet and hang out with as many community members as are able to make it. I'm also hoping to add to this growing and intelligent community by spreading the ABOG word during MGC. There's always room for more.
Zia, if I truly hold that level of mind control over you I can't wait to meet you personally. I could use a new set of theater surround speakers, maybe you can help me out (you will help me out, you will help me out, you wiiiillll help me out - he says with arched eyebrow and piercing gaze). Can't wait to see you there!

And my 2-day pass tickets have been purchased.
Bill
Sweet, I got my 2 day pass tickets purchased, my hotel reservation (Thursday-Sunday night), and my vacation time approved. I just need to get my plane tickets purchased but waiting on it to go down it price. Last year it was about $250 a person and now it is $360 a person.

Cool...think Erica and myself will come out to say hi to everyone and visit Bane too.
Barzenak65
We have reservations and are ready to go !

That's great news! I think it's been two years since I've seen you both. Better not just be a surprise at Sundays breakfast neither- we need to catch up over drinks Fri or Sat night. Would be sweet if bane comes by for a few minutes too.
Joel
Hey is there any interest from the community to get together for a meal one of the days of MGC? I will be there Thurs-Mon if anybody is interested in meeting up to eat one day.

Maybe we could do lunch or something one of the days (or both of the days). Bill/I have to cover our table so tough for us both to break away at the same time, unfortunately. Fri night I'm helping with the MGC tourneys and Sat we have the show right up until the Retroids party starts unless of course there's time in-between. Or maybe someone could watch our table for an hour so we both get to break. Who knows.
Another option might be for Bill to do lunch and then for me to take some people down the street to the used media store. Or vice versa. That way our table is handled at MGC and we both get to hang with the community outside of the event for a little while.
Up to Bill too obviously; those are my initial thoughts. Looking forward to hanging with the community at MGC!!
Joel
Those are good ideas, another suggestion is maybe breakfast saturday morning before things get underway? to make it easier it could even be just at the hotel so we don't have to worry about cars or rides. just a thought.
I can't wait for it and need to get my plane tickets asap, already got hotel reservations. and i also just got my replacement shirts in!

I might be down for breakfast Saturday morning. Got to be back to hotel for start of the daily happenings however. Pancake House is always a nice choice. ;)
Joel
I'm all set and ready for MGC. I will be there all day Saturday and will be back on Sunday with my wife and kids for the day.

I had a great time at MGC this year and feel it was a great opportunity for ABOG to be introduced to literally hundreds of gamers - young and old. It was wonderful meeting all the ABOG members that made it out. Thanks to Scott from Welcome to the Goo for recording our live podcast on Saturday afternoon.
Bill
It was fun to meet you Bill and see Joel again at another MGC. We ended up so rushed we never had much time to hang out or grab food but still glad got to go. Wife loves them road trips and I enjoyed listening to Raven speak about their history and I have played a lot of their games over the years.

Needless to say I had a great time at MGC as well. Got to hang out with Joel and Bill and many other ABOG members. Had a bit of a coming out party for AddedXP as we joined the Retroids podcast network. I even picked up a NES with a few games that I loved as a kid such as Excitebike and RC ProAM.

Had a great time at MGC this year! I got a loot of genesis games, and got a ps2 again so I can play all those games I can't since my 60gb version of the ps3 died earlier.... And a slew of ps2 racing games! (tokyo racer series)
Liked just hanging out talking and playing games!

Always nice to see everyone and to meet new people. Like I said on twitter, and I'll repeat here for emphasis and for those who didn't see it there, MGC isn't just an event but rather a huge reminder of all the great friends I've made over the years.
I remember a time in my life when I wouldn't have even considered getting to know someone from an internet forums but events like MGC break down those walls and allow for 'real' interactions. It's from those interactions that I've had the honor to become friends with many fine people. I can't imagine not knowing some of these people and as I reflect back on yet another MGC come and gone, I'm appreciative for all the great friends I've gained from the event.
Thank you to everyone who stopped by to say hello during MGC. It was an absolute pleasure.
Joel
Glad it went well. I'd love to come over from the UK one year for MGC. Just listening to the podcast now!

Jeez..not sure which cabinet I want to take home someday. Maybe a Dragon's Lair....I loved that game !

Midwest Gaming Classic
Scheduled for Saturday March 23rd and Sunday March 24th, 2013, and being held in the Milwaukee, Wisconsin area. It's actually a suburb of Milwaukee but within a quick 10 minute drive (20 minutes from airport).
A Band of Gamers will be there and will be set-up in the Retroids room. Bill/I are excited for our first convention as ABOG and even more excited for the opp to meet some of this community. So save the date please. If you have the means to join us for that weekend, we will have a blast talking and playing videogames.
Those unfamiliar with the Midwest Gaming Classic can expect a focus on retro gaming/collecting. Arcade games and pinball machines that many of us haven't seen in years are working and playable throughout the event location. There's a vendor hall with all sorts of gaming goodness to purchase including many of the older systems/games. And much more.
Of course the new stuff is also represented. Bring your handhelds especially for some multiplayer goodness with like-minded folk. On Saturday night, the Retroids Podcast Network hosts a party. Course we'll be there. This is a PARTY and we close off the room to youngsters for the evening. Expect much gaming and loud music thereafter.
Bill and I have to sit and officially formulate all of our ABOG specific plans, but hopefully this serves as just a taste to a fantastic main course come end of March.

For any questions or if you need help with travel plans and/or lodging, let Bill or I know (or post them here). We're both local and would be happy to help. See you March 23-24!?
